The Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) Arizona State Chapter will hold a meeting on Wednesday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Westin Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 333 N Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85004.
This expanded chapter meeting – the first of its kind since before the pandemic – will feature federal and state legislative and advocacy updates about issues that impact home care, the latest news about labor laws impacting home care workers, and a featured presentation about the important role home care plays in patient advocacy.

Lunch will be provided, and attendees will have the opportunity to network with colleagues and vendors. The registration fee is $40 for HCAOA members and $80 for non-members.

About the Speakers:
Melissa Cardine, MSN, RN, BCPA Patient Advocate, The Bridge RN Patient Advocates
Melissa has been a nurse for 25 years and is the founder of The Bridge RN Patient Advocates. She enjoys listening to patients, families, and caregivers along with collaborating with healthcare professionals. She has found tremendous success as a private patient advocate and helped numerous clients have a better experience along their healthcare journey. Melissa co-founded The Bridge Health Advocates providing health advocacy and business training for those interested in learning more about professional advocacy work. Melissa was selected to be a Board Member of the Patient Advocate Certification Board in November 2019 and served as President from 2020-2021. Her passion for advocacy is evident in her daily interactions with all those she meets.
Andrea Lovell Shareholder, Littler
Andrea's labor and employment practice is devoted to counseling and defending employers faced with claims of sexual harassment, disability, gender, age, race, national origin and religious discrimination, wrongful discharge and various employment-related torts. Andrea regularly represents employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Arizona Civil Rights Division. Andrea also defends employers against unfair labor practice charges and represents employers in labor arbitrations under collective bargaining agreements. Andrea conducts substantive training for clients on topics such as harassment avoidance and disability discrimination and has worked with a number of clients to develop effective workplace policies and employee handbooks.
Josh Vaughn Shareholder, Littler
An employment defense attorney, Josh represents employers in collective, class, and hybrid actions brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws. Josh has successfully resolved many cases involving complicated legal and business issues that arise in wage and hour litigation and has significant experience defending against claims for overtime (exemption misclassification, off-the-clock, overtime rate calculation), misclassification of independent contractors, minimum wage, meal and rest breaks, “suitable seats,” reporting time and split shifts, expense reimbursements, waiting-time penalties, and wage statement and wage notice violations. As the shareholder in charge of Littler’s Home Care Toolkit, Josh also counsels and defends home care agencies on the unique pre-employment, ongoing employment, and end-of-employment issues.

Sarah represents private and public employers in federal and state court litigation and before administrative agencies regarding claims of discrimination including race, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, and disability, harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, wrongful termination, and numerous other types of employment law matters. In addition to her litigation practice, Sarah counsels employers on a wide variety of employment issues, such as hiring practices, employment policies, disability accommodations and leave administration, and conducting labor and employee relations investigations.
